Gangabal Mahlish Trek
The Gangabal Lakes Trek expedition is the best alternative trek to the famous Great Lakes and it remains open most of the year. The trek starts at Chattergul village. It passes through pine forests, meadows and reaches its destination at the twin alpine lakes Gangabal and Nundkol situated at the foothills of mount Haramukh (5300M). The return route is through Trunkhol. The trek concludes at Naranag village and temple.
The first hike is a steep climb through the pine forest of then a gradual walking through meadows all collide to create a challenging trek in one of the most beautiful and serene Himalayas of Kashmir. It becomes a snow-trek in April-May and October-November and presents a unique view of the Himalayas.

Day wise itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Srinagar Airport
A warm welcome from our associate at your arrival location either at the airport OR TRC. Acclimatization day
Day 2: Srinagar to Chattergul (40 km, 1 hour drive) to Mahlish trek8 kms 5hours
Altitude: 2210m to 3250m
After breakfast at the Hotel, we drive to Chattergul and pack our load and backpacks on horses and start our trek. Our trek is a slightly steep treks through the pine/ birch forest. It takes five hours trek to reach our camping ground at Mahlish to have our tea or kahwa and finally the dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Mahlish – Gangbal via Kouelesar Lake Lake (7 hours trek 13kms )
Altitude: 3250m to 3650m
After the breakfast, we leave Mahlish meadow crossing a small icy-water stream and some boulder paths . We continue our trek passing lush green meadows to Koulesar Lake and Take our packed lunch at koulsar lake. It takes two more hours to reach our camp site at Gangbal Lake. We take our tea or kahwa and the dinner at the campsite. Kolesar Lake is just a 10 minutes walk away from our campsite gangabal lake.
Day 4: Marchoi – Naranag. (6 hrs trek) – Sringar (2 hrs drive).
Marchoi meadow and trek through the meadows and pine forest and reach Naranag. Here ends our walking. We take our car and drive back to Srinagar. Drop at Srinagar.
Day 5: Departure
Have a lavish breakfast at hotel and transfer to Srinagar airport.

FAQs
What do I need to carry during the trek?
The trek is supported by horses and porters, so you only need to carry a small 2-liter bag with essentials such as your phone, water bottle, cash, purse, etc.
What kind of accommodation we will get in trek?
We do camping throughout the trek. We provide 4 men tent to twin sharing all season tent.
What will be the temperature durring the trek?
During trekking day time is always pleasant as temperature stay between 15C-22C throughout the season. At night time, temperature varies between 8 C to 0 C. Our morning, evening and nights are quite cold so you need to be prepared by wearing layers around camp. In early July, high chances of getting snow at Nichnai Pass and Gadsar pass and around. From July mid to August, almost snow melts by July end. And then around August end to September mid expected night temperature around 4 C to 0 C and one can expect snowfall around 2nd week of September. Do expect light shower around evening time.Â
How do we reach srinagar?
Pick-up location is TRC or Srinagar Airport.
Options to Reach Srinagar:Â We advise you to reach Srinagar one day before trek date and by flight only. Better to avoid road route.
If you are planning to take a bus, you can reach ISBT in Srinagar from any major city. It will take 1 hour to reach Nishad garden from ISBT.
If you are planning to fly to Srinagar which is well connected to all major airports in India, you can reach TRC within 20 to 25 minutes via taxi.
If you’re coming by train, there are two railway stations. To fully enjoy your tour, it’s important to ride your bike at least weekly and be comfortable spending time in the saddle!
How does transportation work for the trek?
Our driver will pick you up and drop you off at the base camp for the trek. After the trek is finished, the driver will pick you up again and drop you off at the hotel. All our itineraries include transportation from the airport to the airport.
Is there mobile network on trekking
No network while trekking. Idea, Airtel and BSNL networks available in some of the places during the trek. Only post-paid connection works in Kashmir.

- If any airline is delayed or cancelled, MTB KASHMIR Is not responsible for any compensation for hotel, meals, sightseeing or any other claim.
