Day wise itinerary
Day 1 : Drive from Srinagar to Dawar
Drive Distance: 145 Km.
The first day of the Gurez Valley trek begins with a captivating 7-hour drive from Srinagar to Dawar. This scenic journey winds through enchanting meadows, lush forests, and picturesque valleys, passing by the tranquil shores of Manasbal and Wular Lakes, equally stunning as Dal Lake. As we ascend through the Kashmiri mountain ranges, we’ll traverse the renowned Razdan Pass, offering awe-inspiring panoramas of majestic mountains, verdant valleys, and sprawling forests.
Despite the duration, the drive becomes an enjoyable experience as you become entranced by the natural beauty surrounding you. Upon arrival in Dawar, nestled in its pristine landscape, settle in for the night in our pre-arranged camps. Allow yourself to unwind and immerse in the tranquility of this remote valley, preparing for the adventures that lie ahead on this unforgettable trekking journey.
Day 2 : Dawar to Dison
Trek Distance: 5km
Altitude Gain: 2400m to 3150m
Today marks the first day of your trek in the Gurez Valley, characterized by its gentle gradient and thrilling landscapes. The trek covers a distance of 5 km, beginning with a pleasant stroll through lush grasslands and alongside a pine forest. As you continue, a brief ascent leads you to a vast meadow clearing, offering stunning views of the iconic Habbakhatoon Peak of Gurez. From this vantage point, you can also glimpse local settlements below and, in the distance, catch sight of military posts across the border in Pakistan.
Take a few moments to absorb the beauty and diversity of the surroundings before reaching your designated campsite. Spend the night here amidst the tranquil wilderness. Given the short trekking distance today, you have the option to relax at the campsite or explore the immediate surroundings on foot. Embrace the serenity of the Gurez Valley as you prepare for the adventures awaiting you in the days ahead.
Day 3 : Dison to Khaari
Trek Distance: 8km
Altitude Gain: 3150m to 3445 via 3570m
Today’s trek presents an easy to moderate gradient, featuring gradual ascents and descents along the route. Your journey begins with a trek up to Dawar Heights, a renowned peak standing at 3570m altitude in Gurez. From this vantage point, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area and the entire Gurez Valley, offering a breathtaking perspective of the landscape.
Continuing on, you will trek along a ridge line for a couple of kilometers, taking in the expansive vistas before heading towards Patalwansar Pass. Your campsite for the night is situated near the pass, providing a serene setting to unwind and immerse yourself in the natural beauty.
Upon arrival at the campsite, take the opportunity to explore Patalwansar Pass and marvel at the stunning panoramas it offers. Capture the essence of this remote wilderness and recharge for the next leg of your adventure amidst the tranquil surroundings of Gurez Valley.
Day 4 : Khaari to Patalwansar Lake I via Patalwansar Lake II
Trek Distance: 8km
Altitude Gain: 3445m to 3830m via 3900m
Today’s adventure revolves around exploring the breathtaking alpine lakes of Patalwansar, the highlight of our trek. These twin lakes, Patalwansar I and Patalwansar II, are renowned for their size and captivating beauty.
Our trek begins with a challenging boulder section spanning approximately 3 kilometers. Exercise caution and ensure secure footing as we navigate this terrain. Beyond the boulders, we ascend towards Patalwansar II, covering a distance of 2 kilometers. This section rewards us with stunning vistas as we approach the lake.
Continuing our journey, we trek towards Patalwansar I, encountering another ascent of about 1 kilometer. Following this ascent, a brief descent leads us to the shores of Patalwansar I, our campsite for the night. Nestled beside this picturesque lake, we’ll set up camp and immerse ourselves in the serene ambiance of the surrounding alpine scenery.
Take this opportunity to relax, explore the lakeside surroundings, and soak in the tranquility of Patalwansar I. Tonight promises an unforgettable experience under the starlit sky beside this stunning alpine lake.
Day 5 : Patalwansar to Dison
Trek Distance: 12km
Altitude Loss: 3830m to 3150m
Today marks the return journey to Dison, covering a full-day descent spanning approximately 12 kilometers. The trail retraces our path via Khaari, initially passing through a challenging 3-kilometer boulder section. Exercise caution while navigating this terrain.
Beyond the boulder section, the trail opens up into pristine meadows adorned with lush greenery, stretching over approximately 8 kilometers. This tranquil meadow walk leads us back to Dison, our camping destination for the night.
Upon arrival, take in the spectacular sunset views from Dison, where the sun casts its golden hues upon the iconic Habbakhatoon Peak. Embrace this serene moment as we conclude our trek with memories of the breathtaking landscapes and experiences shared along the journey.
Day 6 : Dison to Dawar to Srinagar
Trek Distance: 5km
Altitude Loss: 3150m to 1590m
Drive Duration: 6 hours
Today marks the final day of our trek, featuring a moderate gradient with a sharp descent followed by a flat walk leading us to Dawar. We anticipate reaching Dawar by noon, where we will conclude our trekking adventure.
Upon arrival in Dawar, we will prepare for our journey back to Srinagar via the same scenic road we initially traveled. Reflect on the memorable experiences and stunning landscapes encountered throughout our trek in the Gurez Valley as we bid farewell to this enchanting region.
This day serves as a fitting conclusion to our trek, filled with reflections on our achievements and the natural beauty that has surrounded us.
